Marquess Photo Appeared in Magazine
The July 2006 issue of Precision Shooting, a magazine dealing exclusively with extreme rifle accuracy, featured an article on cattleman Oliver Loving. Written by J. Paul McFadden, Amarillo, TX, the article was part of a series of articles entitled “The Last Post, Final Resting Places of Famous Riflemen”. The article included a photograph of Watson 101, a steer owned by Ron and Barbara Marquess of Ben Wheeler, TX. TLBGCA Donate Calves For Youth Show
This Note was sent to the E-Trails by Stephen Head, Angleton, TX.
At the TLBGCA affiliate show held in Brenham, TX, six breeders donated calves for the youth show. Each youth attending the show was entered into a drawing for the six calves. Elizabeth Faske from Somerville, TX, was in Brenham watching her first Texas Longhorn show. Her name was drawn as the winner of a calf donated by Kathryn Head, TLBT member from Angleton, TX. The Faskes visited the Heads and Elizabeth selected Snow Drift, a December, 2005 heifer. As a result of this donation, a new breeder has been created and a new friendship has formed.

Congratulations, Elizabeth, and welcome to the Texas Longhorn family. Thank you, Kathryn, for your willingness and generosity in making this donation.

Weekly Hay Report from Texas Department of Agriculture
http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/AM_GR310.txt
Compared to last week: Trade activity is moderate. Demand remains very good on all classes of hay. Prices are steady to firm. Parts of the state received much need rainfall but mostly spotty showers as drought conditions still exist in some areas. Cutting and bailing continue but yields continue to disappoint producers. The less than normal yields and limited crop have buyers scrambling for needs from long distances. Producers with irrigation are having difficulties keeping enough water on fields as hot drying winds prevail. The state of Texas Department of Agriculture has a Hay and Grazing Hot Line set up for buyers and sellers, number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted.
