Turning Guns into Art
League City, TX – Weapons confiscated by the League City Police Department are becoming art in the hands of Sculptor Terry Jones of Jewett, TX. Jones is turning these miscellaneous guns into art for the Butler Longhorn Museum in League, TX.
By court order the weapons have to be destroyed and the instead of throwing away the metal, Jones will be allowed to create artwork for the Butler Longhorn Museum. The Article was featured in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Eighth Case of BSE found in Canadian Cow
Canadian officials confirmed an eighth case of BSE on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, in a mature cow believed to be born after the ban on feeding mammalian protein was enacted.
According to USDA officials, they are reviewing the information and will report on “whether it impacts the Department’s proposed minimal risk rule.”
Canada Completes Epidemiological Investigation of 7 th BSE Case
WASHINGTON, August 25, 2006—The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced today that they have completed an epidemiological investigation on their 7th BSE case, a 50-month-old animal that was confirmed positive on July 13th.
USDA participated in the investigation and we are now reviewing the report to determine whether it impacts the Department's proposed minimal risk rule. The proposed rule would allow imports of animals over 30 months from countries that pose minimal risk. Data provided in today's report will be factored into the current risk assessment.
USDA officials will be in regular contact with Canadian officials throughout the investigation of an eighth case identified earlier this week
USDA Awards Over $4.9 Million to Fund Rural Public Television
WASHINGTON, August 25, 2006 - Agriculture Deputy Secretary Chuck Conner today announced that public television networks and stations in nine states will receive $4.97 million to enable them to provide digital broadcasting services to rural residents. The funds are being provided through USDA Rural Development's Public Television Digital Transition Grant program.
"Many of these stations transmit to sparsely populated areas," Conner said. "They are a vital link to rural communities, providing local news, educational programming, and other services.”

Compared to last week: Trade activity light to moderate. Demand continues very good on all classes of hay. Prices remain firm. Rain was reported throughout the coverage area, mostly in the Panhandle and East Texas. In North and Central Texas, extreme drought conditions exist with daytime temperature remaining around the 100-degree mark. The less than normal yields have buyers scrambling for hay supplies, as supplies are limited. Producers with irrigation having difficulties keeping enough water on fields as hot and dry weather conditions prevail.
