Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture

Compared to last week: All of the recent storms with the heavy snows in Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas have prevented hay from being transported down to Texas, as they are more concerned with feeding the trapped cattle locally. Those who had previously been getting hay from Canada will soon have to go elsewhere as that supply will shut off soon as well. In spite of the lack of hay coming from the north, prices remain steady to firm. Movement and activity remains light, and demand is good. Good quality hay is becoming harder to find. With the recent moisture in Texas, wet hay is also a problem. The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas please click here.
