Fort Worth Herd Seeking Name for Junior Steer

An unregistered steer, donated by TLBAA member Bill Hudson, Lott, TX, to the Fort Worth Herd in early 2005, is ready to run with the big boys and only lacks a name to finalize his joining the herd. Known as “Junior” to the handlers of the herd, the young steer will be replacing a retiring older steer, Vaquero, in February. Help the young steer make his mark with a snappy new name and read the story about this contest on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Web site – details about how to submit a name are at the bottom of the story.

TSCRA Texas Crop and Weather Report

Released January 25, 2007 - Writer: Kay Ledbetter, 806-677-5608

El Niño continues to feed moisture across most of the state in the form of snow and freezing rain, according to Texas Cooperative Extension reports.
The moisture is providing a necessary boost for wheat crops, filling the soil moisture profile for spring crops and replenishing water in many ponds.
However, too much water in some areas is hindering some winter pasture grazing and the snow and ice have caused many cattle producers to have to put out extra hay and supplemental feed. Several areas report concerns with dwindling hay supplies. Read more of the Texas Crop and Weather Report on the TSCRA Web site.

Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture

Compared to last week: Trade in the hay market in the last week has been fairly quiet. Demand is still good and supply is still tight. Prices remain steady. Because of the freezes in California and Arizona, it has caused some to lose some of their supply. The Panhandle, the North Central and East have received more snow and rain. The South has received much needed rain, so much rain that it has caused flooding in some areas. Supplemental feeding continues. With all of the moisture, wheat pastures are doing well. Soil moisture is adequate and rangeland and pasture conditions are poor to good. The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas please click here.
