Texas Historical Foundation Raising Money to Restore Goodnight House
From the Texas Historical Foundation Web site
The effort by preservationists to raise $3 million to save the 1887 Charles Goodnight Home in Goodnight, TX, so that it can become the centerpiece of the future Charles Goodnight Interpretive Historical Center, is well underway. Happily, there is good news to report on several fronts. This follows a recent contribution of $100,000 the Texas Historical Society made for the restoration of the Goodnight home.
First, the Texas Historical Foundation is working hand and hand with the Armstrong County Museum to assist in the fundraising effort, and a membership-driven appeal has raised more than $16,000 thus far. All money given to THF in support of this project will be turned over to the Armstrong County Museum, and now donations given after March 21, 2006, will be doubled by this matching grant. Corn Expected to Drive Livestock Up For the Next 10 Years
The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its 10-year projections for agriculture Feb. 14. The complete report can be read at http://www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/ag_baseline.htm.
Projections for the livestock sector reflect production adjustments in response to sharply higher grain prices due to the expansion of corn-based ethanol production. Returns to U.S. meat and poultry production fall from those in recent years, slowing increases in or reducing production of all meats over the next several years. Read more on the TSCRA Web site.
