ALBERTA TEXAS LONGHORN ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY
Submitted by the ATLA
On September 1-3, 2007, the Alberta Texas Longhorn Association (ATLA) celebrated their 25th anniversary. Ron Walker hosted the special event at his ranch near Redcliff, Alberta, Canada. Many past and present members attended the fun and eventful weekend. Saturday was a “Meet and Greet” as everyone gathered at the ranch. Guests took advantage of touring through Ron’s pastures where his Texas Longhorn cattle grazed. The evening was spent socializing with each other and reminiscing.
Sunday morning started off with a breakfast and more visiting. The events through out the day included branding a 4x8-foot silhouette of a Texas Longhorn bull. Each guest was invited to put their brand on the silhouette and the bull was auctioned later in the evening. Lee and Bonnie Stringer of Stringer Ranches donated a bred heifer for which raffle tickets were sold with the proceeds going to the ATLA. Congratulations to Len and Doris Boyd for winning the beautiful red and white heifer. The ATLA would like to say a BIG thank you to Lee and Bonnie for their generous contribution.

Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture
Compared to last week: Price trend on hay changed little this week. Trade is moderate at best, as producers try to cut and bail hay in between rain showers all over the state. Movement is rather slow as supplemental feeding is minimal and most pastures are in good to excellent conditions. Dairy and horse quality hay remains in short supply and much sought after. Much of the hay recently baled is rather mature and discolored and quality not as anticipated. Thus, some hay producers have opted to put up large rounds instead of higher quality small squares especially Coastal Bermuda. This fact has resulted in a tight supply of premium small squares and a larger than normal supply of large rounds which have been fairly hard to move at present.
The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas please click here.
