Crop Residues Can Help Cattle Producers Through Shortages

South Carolina cattle producers, facing shortages of forages and hay because of prolonged drought, should take a look at baling residue from soybeans and corn.
That’s the advice of two Clemson University speakers during the Fall Field Day at the Edisto Research and Education Center.

Vaccination Injection Tips
New needles are recommended for every animal that is vaccinated in order to prevent disease transmission and post-vaccination abscesses. If vaccinating a large herd, new needles for every animal may not be practical. Changing to a new needle every ten animals is suggested.
USDA Issues $1.8 Million in Conservation Reserve Program Rental Payments

Washington, October 1, 2007 – Acting Agriculture Secretary Chuck Conner announced that beginning today, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will distribute approximately $1.8 billion in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) rental payments to participants across the country for fiscal year 2008 for completed performance in the prior fiscal year.
"By participating in CRP, producers and other landowners throughout the nation are improving air and water quality, enhancing wildlife habitat and reducing erosion," said Conner.
