Longhorn Breeders from across the country traveled to Red McCombs Ranch in Johnson City, TX, for one of the most anticipated Longhorn sales and events of the year on October 19-20, 2007. On Friday, October 19, 2007, McCombs celebrated his 80th birthday surrounded by family and friends topped off with a special Baby Doll Heifer Sale consisting of 20 lots of choice Longhorn heifers all less than two to three years old. Sale attendees dined on barbeque beef, roasted pork, crab cakes, fresh avocado and plenty of fixings.
The High Selling Lot for the Baby Doll Sale sold for $26,000 and was named RM SUPER TOO (a 2005 daughter of Super Bowl and RM High Horns Too). LD and Kathleen Brinkman from Kerrville, TX, bought her from consignor Red McCombs.

After the Baby Doll Sale, all enjoyed live music performed by Asleep At The Wheel. Red and Charline McCombs stepped out on the dance floor for a few turns as did many others.

After Asleep At The Wheel performed, Red’s birthday cake was served and attendees enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show.
At the Sale-A-Bration Sale on Saturday October 20, 2007, Red and Charline McCombs welcomed plenty of buyers with a complementary lunch and another high-powered sale to enjoy. The High Selling Lot at the Sale-A-Bration Sale was sold for $42,500 and was WIREGRASS LAURA (2002 daughter of Wiregrass Phenomenon and Horse Head Heart Stopper). Consigned by Joe Graddy, Cottonwood, AL, and bought by Tom and Nancy Loeffler, San Antonio, TX. The Loefflers also were the high selling lot buyers at Red McCombs Fiesta Sale held in the spring of 2007.

Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture
Compared to last week: Hay prices remain steady, instances firm. Demand is moderate with movement and trade activity light to moderate. Buyers are trying to get winter supplies filled. Some producers are close or are on their last cutting as the fall season approaches. Soil moisture has been rated as short to surplus, with the average at fair. Pasture and rangeland conditions rated as fair to good. The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998.
