The 23rd Annual Nebraska Texas Longhorn Association Sale in Kearney on Saturday, Oct. 2 was a big hit.
Bill Sayre of St. Catherine, MO was the accomplished auctioneer of the morning sale of 80 head, while Joe McCutchan of Nelson, NE and Shawn Huffman of Ericson, NE were the talented ringmen. Mike Bowman of Benton, KS was the honorable judge.
To get ready for the sale, breeders gathered on Friday night for a party complete with a barbeque dinner at Sup's Lodge. TLBAA Region 13 Director Tom Claassen of Garwin, IA said the sale was filled with an enthusiastic crowd.
"This is a good sale that the affiliate is working hard to keep going," Claassen said. "The prices were strong and the weather was perfect for a sale."
The high-selling Longhorn was Marilyn Mooroe for $3,150 consigned by David and Denise Manary of North Platte, NE. Hank Besack of Lebo, KS purchased the high-selling heifer, which was also named the Champion Senior Pair. Marilyn Mooroe is the daughter of Wellfleet Cowboy 283.
Also a high seller was the Champion Heifer, 7LS Miss Canyon Dancer, consigned by Larry and Mary Ann Long of North Platte, NE. The daughter of Sundance Kid 700 went home with Tom Claassen for $3,000.
The title of Reserve Senior Pair went to Triple Ten Tex 603, consigned by Rod Lind of Elm Creek, NE and purchased by Brett De Lapp of Sheridan, WY. The Reserve Heifer Champion was DV Peg O My Heart, consigned by Del-Vic Farms of Snyder, NE and purchased by Todd Groharing of Davenport, IA. The Champion Junior Pair was Florrisant Bold Mix, consigned by David and Denise Manary. Mike Bowman took home the champion junior pair for $2,000. The Reserve Champion Junior Pair was Red Pokea Dots and was consigned by Jim Hutchinson of Denver, CO and purchased by Mike Bowman for $2,000. Bozilla from Del-Vic Farms was named Champion Junior Cow but was a no sale. The Reserve Champion Junior Cow was JBR Black Rulen Reda, consigned by Justin Rombeck of JBR Farms in Home, KS. The champion junior cow went home with Chad Vacha of Marysville, KS for $1,250.
NTLA Secretary Bonnie Damrow of Roca, NE said she was very happy with the results of the sale.
"We had such a great crowd of excited people with a love for Longhorn breeding," Damrow said.
