TLBT Youth Win Big with The Autobahn Motorcar Group Youth Scholarship Tour

The numbers are in, and this year’s Autobahn Motorcar Group Youth Scholarship Tour has been a resounding success. The 2006 National Youth Show had an all-time-record-setting 357 entries. The Autobahn Motorcar Group Youth Scholarship Tour had $70,000 in scholarship money dedicated to this event alone; for a total of $150,000 in scholarships for the 2005-2006 Autobahn Motorcar Group Youth Scholarship Tour.

Sixty thousand dollars of the $70,000 available went to 1st through 5th place, in the 40 classes at the National Youth Show on June 8, 2006.

A $1500 amount was awarded to each class and the break-down of the total was: 1st place received $500; 2nd place received $400; 3rd place received $300; 4th place received $200 and 5th place received $100.

In the always competitive showmanship category, there was $10,000 up for grabs for the eight classes of showmanship at $1250 per class. The break-down was as follows: 1st place received $625; 2nd place received $375 and 3rd place received $250.

When John and Diann Chase heard the news about the number of entries and youth who received scholarship funds, they were more than pleased. They would like to express their gratitude to the parents and others who have helped these young people compete not only for scholarships but for life’s successes.

John and Diann Chase hope the future of the Autobahn Motorcar Group Youth Scholarship Tour includes more and more youth and entries in the coming years; in order to keep young people off the streets and in the show ring.

Beef Board Blog

Courtesy of the Kansas Beef Council Review

In an effort to keep producers up-to-date on the latest Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) meetings, CBB has launched a new Web site known as “Beef Board Meeting.” If you have Internet access, you can visit the site through the “producer info” link at: www.kansasbeef.org.

The blog, slang for web log, is updated each time members of the CBB meet. Reports from both committee and full board meetings will be posted on the Web site blog. The site is intended to provide producers real-time information concerning how their checkoff dollars are invested.

Weekly Agriculture Podcast on agnewsweekly.tamu.edu

The newest way to broadcast on the Internet is to podcast. Without getting too technical, this involves: recording live music, speeches or radio shows; saving them as MP3’s and then uploading them on Web sites. This allows everyone in the world the ability to download and listen to them at their leisure.

The “Pod” in podcast comes from Apple computer’s popular iPod digital music player, but any MP3 player can download a podcast and play it. The “MP3” digitally encrypts music and compresses the file size to almost one-twelfth of its original size. This allows for faster downloads and more music to be saved on a computer’s hard drive.

Okay, now that we established the technical side of this article, let’s get back to the farm.

On the Web site, agnewsweekly.tamu.edu, is a weekly podcast about agricultural news, for all you digital cowboys and cowgirls out there. They have previous podcasts available for download. Of particular interest is the February 10, 2006, podcast which discusses the current drought and its economic effects on the farming industry.
