TLBAA Chairman Dr. Fritz Moeller, Socorro, NM, made his annual chairman address during the general membership meeting. |
TLBAA Chairman Dr. Frtiz Moeller, Socorro, NM, began the meeting and welcomed all TLBAA members in attendance. After TLBAA Secretary Scott Simmons, Medora, IL, read the roll call of current TLBAA board members seated in the audience, Chairman Moeller gave his annual address in which he said that the TLBAA remains solvent and is continuing its work towards the preservation of the Texas Longhorn breed. Full minutes of the TLBAA Board and General Membership meetings were recorded for accuracy by a licensed court reporter and will be available for download soon on the E-Trails.
During the meeting, Chairman Moeller recognized TLBAA members Darlene Aldridge and John Parmley, Somerville, TX, with a special whistle for their commitment to the uncovering of questionable business practices, which lead to the investigation of the misappropriation of funds by Don L. King and SuzAnn Spindor and ultimately the arbitration awarded judgment.

Editors Note: E-Trails Breeders Directory Listing Invoices
When the E-Trails was first launched in September 2004, the intent was to give TLBAA members the opportunity to participate by marketing their breeding programs within the E-Trails Breeders Directory as well as give the members up-to-date TLBAA news on a weekly basis.
The Web site was also designed to give the TLBAA another source of revenue by eventually charging breeders to be included in the Breeders Directory. With the launching of the newly re-designed E-Trails, came the opportunity for the E-Trails to begin what was planned from the beginning and charge those breeders that wish to continue to benefit from the readership of the E-Trails with a small fee of $120 per year. This charge is for maintaining and updating the directory and funding the management of the E-Trails.
Invoices have been mailed to all breeders who have enjoyed the visibility of having their listing appear each week over the past 4 years.
If you wish to continue to reach the more than 1,000 visitors that view E-Trails on a weekly basis, please submit your payment of $120 by March 1, 2008. After March 5, 2008, if payment has not been received your listing will be eliminated from the breeder directory and your account will not be charged.
Further information will be forthcoming in a letter to all current Breeders listed in the directory. In the meantime if there are any questions, please contact E-Trails Editor Cole Dowden at (817) 625-6241 or Cole@tlbaa.org.

Drought Conditions Update
Click here for information about the seasonal drought conditions and updated national drought information directly from The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Here is an additional weekly drought monitor from NOAA.
Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture
Compared to last week: Hay prices are steady. Movement and trade activity has slowed down a little. Demand is moderate to good. Most areas are still dry with no sign of relief on the way. With corn prices sky high and not looking to come down soon, some comments have been made that hay prices won't be decreasing either. There is still a lot of hay out in fields to be sold, but most is large rounds and lower quality hay that had been rained on over the summer. Soil moisture is rated as very short to adequate, with most reporting short. Rangeland and pasture conditions are very poor to adequate with most at fair. Wheat pastures are still of concern as moisture is low. Supplemental feeding continues.
The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas, click here.
