TLBT Member On His Way to 2008 TLBAA World Show

Longhorn Believe It or Not!
By Carolyn Hunter
Everyone knows that everything is bigger in Texas (at least according to Texans), and Royal Caribbean International cruise line evidently got the message. Their Voyager of the Seas is the largest cruise ship ever to be based on the Gulf Coast and to sail from the Port of Galveston. When it docked in Galveston last month prior to its maiden voyage in April 2008, the ship sported a pair of 600-pound horns measuring 140 feet.
Valued at $24,844, the horns, the largest ever created, are made of 10 oz. flame retardant vinyl coated nylon. They come with four blowers, a 30 ft storage bag, a cold repair kit, instruction manual, and 2-year guarantee on workmanship and material.
The horns were auctioned on eBay to benefit Starlight Starbright Texas, the state chapter of a foundation that helps seriously ill children and their families. Also included in the package were a seven-day cruise aboard the Voyager of the Seas and four 70x85 ft. Texas flags. Sixteen bids were recorded with the winner paying $4,200 for the deal.
Read more about these unbelievable horns on www.royalcaribbean.com or www.ebay.com/longhorns.

Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture
Compared to last week: Hay prices continue to trade on a steady basis with slow to moderate movement. Many buyers are working off of previous contracts. High quality dairy type or calf type hays are getting extremely hard to find, while average quality hays are more readily available and poorer quality hays are being offered more frequently in an attempt to move them before the new season begins. Corn silage contracts are currently being negotiated in the Panhandle and will undoubtedly have some impact on local hay prices in the upcoming year as always. Feedlots are trying to decide what part of their roughage needs will be provided by hay, by products like cotton burrs, and by silage.
The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas, click here.
