Northwest Longhorn Association Gearing Up for West Coast Registered Texas Longhorn Sale
June 21, 2008, 1 pm
Aurora, OR
Auctioneer: Joel Lemley, Blackwell, TX
Sponsor: Northwest Longhorn Association
Where better to have a Texas Longhorn Sale than in the beautiful Pacific Northwest? You can plan your vacation and attend a high quality Longhorn Sale all in one. The sale will be held at Lone Star Ranch in Aurora, OR, at 1 pm on June 21.
The location is fantastic with ocean beaches on the Pacific Ocean, mountain skiing, salmon fishing, beautiful rivers and forests, hiking, swimming, museums vineyards, rose gardens and the end of the historical Oregon Trail.
The Portland, Oregon International Airport is only 25 miles from the sale arena. There are many hotels and bed and breakfast establishments in the area.
According to sale organizer Sheryl Johnson, the sale cattle are of the highest quality in the Northwest and can compete with anything nationally.
“In November, six winners in the TLBAA Horn showcase came from the West Coast,” Johnson said in an email to the Trails. “The cattle from this area are also outstanding in the show ring. Just look at the latest edition of the Trails and check out how many TLBAA Hall of Fame animals are from this area.”
With an affiliate fueled by a hard-working group of people with the united goal of showcasing Texas Longhorn cattle to anyone and everyone this highly anticipated sale in the northwest looks to be a barn-burner.
“We will have donation lots in the sale for deep-sea fishing trips and much more.
Mark your calendar and plan to attend the sale, and go on vacation at the same time,” Johnson said.
To request an entry packet or sale program, contact either Sheryl Johnson at (503) 349-4985, J5longhorns@yahoo.com or Daniel Fey at (503) 662-4820, daniel@feylonghorns.com.

Weekly Hay Report from the Texas Department of Agriculture
Compared to last week: Prices remain steady. Trade activity and movement moderate. Demand is moderate. Some areas still have a lot of Coastal Bermuda hay supplies left over, and are concerned about getting it sold before a new crop begins. Comments have been made that these producers are now just trying to recover baling costs and are reducing prices. Reports have been made about the increasing costs of fertilizer, and some are concerned that in order to avoid higher costs that some might apply very little and yields might suffer. Most areas received more rain this past week, which has helped the pasture and rangeland conditions, as well as winter wheat conditions, although, some areas have also been experiencing windy conditions, which has depleted some of the moisture received. Most areas are still dry, and some still have burn bans in effect and others have experienced wildfires. Soil moisture has been rated as very short to adequate, with most at short. Pasture and rangeland conditions are very poor to fair, with most at poor. Winter wheat conditions are very poor to good condition, most at fair. Supplemental feeding continues.
The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas, click here.
