TLBAA Board Reinstates Darol Dickinson

In 1989, TLBAA member Darol Dickinson was approached by a former TLBAA employee with accusations of theft and mismanagement by then Executive Director Roy Dee Gregg. Dickinson informed several Board members of these charges. In response, Board members Don King and Larry Southard along with Dixie Longhorn Association president Kip Brown charged that Dickinson had violated Article VI of the 1988 bylaws.

Dickinson was charged with allegedly spreading false information concerning Executive Director Roy Dee Gregg and Gregg’s mismanagement of office personnel, together with Gregg’s alleged misappropriation of funds and misuse of credit cards and travel reimbursement by Gregg and others of his staff.

A hearing was held where Dickinson was convicted by a vote of 9-5 and suspended for a period of five years by a vote of 8-6. Although Don King was a director, he did not vote, as he had testified on behalf of Gregg.

In 1991, Executive Director Roy Dee Gregg, was given a vote of no confidence by the board and asked to resign. Also the board recommended the dismissal of SuzAnn Spindor.

In 1993, the Board of Directors voted to eliminate the last 6 months of Dickinson’s suspension and made him eligible to apply for renewal of his membership in the TLBAA. In light of additional information that surfaced and the Gregg dismissal, many throughout the industry felt that Mr. Dickinson had been vindicated.

On June 9, 2009, the TLBAA Board of Directors voted 13-5 to reinstate Darol Dickinson and grant him a lifetime membership. Those voting yes were: Doc Hyder, Kaso Kety, Don Grata, Scott Simmons, Carl Brantley, Maurice Ladnier, Lana Hightower, Darlene Aldridge, Donnie Taylor, Robert Richey, Theo Kocian, Steven Zunker, and Jim Rombeck. Absent from the voting portion of the meeting were Charlie Buenger, Michael Sitzmann and Rich Spooner. Those voting no were: Deb Lesyk, Gene Juranka, Kerry Mounce, Steve Quary and Randy Briscoe. Gene Juranka and Randy Briscoe explained they favored reinstatement, but not the lifetime membership.

The TLBAA would like to welcome Mr. Dickinson back as a member of the TLBAA.

Weekly Texas Hay Report

Compared to last week: Hay prices generally steady. Trade activity and demand varies from one area of the state to the other depending on recent rainfall and drought conditions. Horse and dairy quality hay is still in limited supply. Hay from outside states is being delivered into the Panhandle and Northern Texas regions causing downward pressure on the large square alfalfa market.

This has caused demand to be light and trade to be slow in those regions. Drought conditions in Central, Eastern, and Southern Texas has affected yields, consequently inventories are low while demand for hay is increasing. Rising inputs have producers concerned about breakeven prices. A smaller amount of wheat hay is being reported in the market this week.

The State of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hotline set up for buyers and sellers. The number is 1-877-429-1998. The Web site for TDA is www.agr.state.tx.us. For a hay report from a state other than Texas, click here.
