The cowboy of yesterday was a spirited, independent, resourceful, hardworking individual who earned his livelihood by trailing sprawling herds of Texas Longhorn cattle to northern markets braving raging rivers, choking dust storms, wild stampedes, and Indian attacks. Some of those who survived returned home with money jingling in their pockets, bought a piece of land, and stocked it with their own cattle. Others, of a different spirit, chose to ride the trails forever. Although the trails are closed today, there are still those who have that same restless spirit to see new and distant pastures. They are called OUTRIDERS!

The TLBAA realizes that not everyone interested in this magnificent breed of cattle is able to become a breeder of Texas Longhorns. However, if you, like so many others, have an interest in, and a passion for, reminders of our rich past, help us provide what your children's children deserve the opportunity to experience first hand the romance and history associated with the Texas Longhorn.

Join us as a TLBAA Outrider and share in preserving animals that embody the spirit and legacy of the Old West. The Outriders serve as the preservation arm of the Texas Longhorn breed; in order to protect the unique heritage of the Texas Longhorn and its link with the history of America; to produce more public awareness of Texas Longhorn cattle; to encourage others to preserve and protect the historic breed; to aid in the advancement of the breed through scientific research and promotion; to remain ever vigilant of topics pertaining to the cattle industry such as the environment, land and water rights, and any issue deemed important to the preservation and protection of the Texas Longhorn.
