STLA Fall Field Day
The South Texas Longhorn Association (STLA) invites you to its Fall Field Day to be held on October 9, 2010 at El Coyote Ranch in conjunction with the TLBAA Horn Showcase Satellite Measurement.
The day will begin with observing and discussing the official horn measuring of many great longhorns. Several Horn Showcase champions have been measured at this satellite location in the past. Felix Serna and Dr. Bob Kropp will lead this discussion and answer your questions.
Other topics and speakers scheduled during the day are “Cattle Health Practices” led by Dr. Glen Wilkinson and “Reproduction & Embryo Transfer” led by Dr. Boyd Bien of BovaGen. Steven Zunker will also lead a discussion on “The Proper Filing of TLBAA Registration and Transfer Forms.”
El Coyote will serve up a lunch that is sure to please. You just need to bring your appetite and your favorite dessert to share!
Don’t forget the camera as the afternoon will start with Ranch Tours to view the incredible herd of longhorns assembled at El Coyote as well as hear what’s new at the ranch.
After the tour, there will be plenty time for games, door prizes and talking longhorns. Please bring an item for the silent auction benefiting the STLA Youth Scholarship program.
Additional information including directions to the ranch will be posted on the STLA website at www.stla.org. Please RSVP by October 4th to Louis Christa at 210-863-7003 or LChri58@msn.com.

Weekly Texas Hay Report
AM_GR310
Amarillo, TX Fri Sept 24, 2010 USDA-TX Dept of Ag Market News
Weekly Texas Hay Report
Compared to last week: Hay prices mostly steady. Trade moderate with moderate to good demand. More inquiry on hay has been reported in the past few
weeks as livestock producers are looking to increase their inventories heading into the fall and winter months. Moisture levels throughout the state have considerably improved due to the recent tropical storms. Pastures and fields all through the state have improved, however some livestock are beginning to be supplemented feed. The wet weather has also caused armyworm populations to increase substantially causing a negative impact for hay producers who did not spray. The wet weather has also caused some crop harvest and planting to be delayed. Hay inventories in areas of East Texas are below average due to the dry summer; however, supplies throughout the rest of the state are being reported as average to above average. High quality horse and dairy type alfalfa continues to be in short supply. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton
except where noted.
The state of Texas Department of Agriculture has the Hay and Grazing Hot Line set up for buyers and sellers; the number is 1-877-429-1998. The web site for TDA is www.tda.state.tx.us.
