Foundation

Most current members of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America (TLBAA) are familiar with the "basics" of the herd registry...registration, transfer, A.I. certification, Texas Longhorn Trails magazine, World Qualifying Show Circuit, Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow, Horn Showcase, membership sales, etc. However many of our new members and perhaps some of the more established breeders may not realize that the Association also has a Foundation arm. This Texas Longhorn Breeders of America Foundation was established in 1986 to complement the Association in the preservation and promotion of the Texas Longhorn breed.

I am happy to report to the membership that the Texas Longhorn Breeders of America (TLBAA) Foundation currently holds assets in excess of a million dollars in land and cash, and it continues to grow for the future.

The TLBAA Foundation was organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or the corresponding provision or provisions of any subsequent United States Internal Revenue law (the "Code"). Within the scope of the foregoing purposes, the TLBAA Foundation is organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of and to support the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, a Texas nonprofit corporation (the "Association") which is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(5) of the Code.

The TLBAA Foundation supports and benefits the Association by, among other things, providing and promoting education programs by disseminating information on the Texas Longhorn breed and its history to various schools, students and instructors, and to work with civic clubs, livestock organizations and the news media regarding the Texas Longhorn breed.

It also provides a source of funds to promote the presentation of awards through various organizations such as 4-H Clubs, universities and high schools to young persons and students who are interested in livestock production as well as our own youth, Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow (TLBT) members.

In addition, the TLBAA Foundation is the TLBAA's voice in the influencing of local, state, and federal legislation to benefit the livestock and ranching industry.

Another purpose of the TLBAA Foundation is to publish or assist in the publication of educational material, and solicit such material to persons or entities interested in topics concerning the Texas Longhorn breed. It also provides information and activity into the promotion of animal health, transportation and environmental issues relating to cattle raising and particularly the Texas Longhorn breed.

The TLBAA Foundation will continue to seek new ideas to improve the preservation of our registered Texas Longhorn cattle and continuing education of the history of the early days.

TLBAA Foundation funds come from a variety of sources including donations, memorials, and income from the TLBAA Foundation's property in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Members of the TLBAA are reminded contributions may be made to the Texas Longhorn Breeders of America Foundation in many ways. All contributions are tax-deductible. For more information, please contact the TLBAA office.
